It’s sunny, it’s cool and it’s one of those days when I sit down and have no idea what may come out of my fingers.
Brace yourselves, it could be a spicy one.
Or maybe not. I guess we’ll see as it goes.
The thugs have been out and about in Chicago, tear gassing like it’s a casual, safe, normal thing to do.
It’s not.
Let me off this awful ride.
There’s a horrendous hurricane brewing and likely to hit Jamaica, and pretty much everywhere we turn, it’s bad news. Like a whole lot of people are about to get very hungry when they lose their benefits for food.
For. FOOD.
Can I blame all of it on republicans?
Yes.
Including the hurricane?
Uh, yes.
The storms are getting worse, just like the scientists said they would, due to climate change. The two things we are seeing that are likely to make this storm so destructive–that it’s moving slowly and is incredibly powerful–can be attributed to climate change.
And republicans have fought tooth and nail to prevent any action on it. In fact, from denying it, like with everything else, they’ve moved on to lying about it.
The government shut down, well that’s an easy one. Not only are they in charge of EVERY BRANCH OF GOVERNMENT, including Congress, republicans have waged a war against food assistance since the ’80s. And ignore the heavy-handed attempt to “both sides” this issue in the article (shame on you Guardian, you know better) and blame Pres. Bill Clinton for a bill WRITTEN BY and PASSED BY a republican House and Senate.
After coercive government shut downs. And that bill was a compromise.
It’s the same thing with the ACA and subsidies, or has everyone else forgotten the beer and pizza party republicans threw after getting the votes in the House to overturn access to health insurance for millions of Americans?
None of this is new. None of this is a surprise. They have been trying to do this for ages, and then lying about it when confronted.
And while they are trying to rewrite congressional maps to cement an always-control by their minority–and they ARE a minority–they have forgotten one thing.
Unless they can completely control and rig the vote, that only works if people actually vote for them.
If people don’t vote for them, their imaginary lines are meaningless.
We need to reach people where they are. Religious? Quote the parts on feeding people. About to lose benefits? Point out that republicans are in control and they’re the ones who can fix it, this minute if they want.
That there is a reserve but donald won’t use it and republicans won’t try to force him.
Only Democrats are calling for emergency funding.
Heath insurance premiums about to reach eye-watering levels?
Bring back the people who got you subsidies in the first place.
Anyway, that’s it for me today, I hope you are OK and have the best day possible.
