It’s snowy out there, it was heavy for a while, but now it’s sunny, leaving the trees heavily frosted.
Pretty.
What’s not so pretty is what I have to say. I sat with it overnight, and a lot of you are not going to like it, but I can’t get it out of my head so here we are.
If you were paid in October, and you were paid in November; if you have food in the fridge and the cupboards, it’s easy to stand on morality. It’s easy to say “why give in now, we can do this forever,” because you, technically, are not doing it.
And I know people also rely on the ACA subsidies. I’m not saying they don’t matter. But I’m asking you to look honestly, genuinely, at where we are.
I thought we learned our purity lessons last year when America voted away all the good options. I’ve said this before: there are NO GOOD OPTIONS LEFT. We have bad options, equally bad but differently bad options, and disastrous options.
I’ve seen people acting like some good election results that didn’t actually shift the balance of power in the federal government mean we can get everything we want. That’s not at all what they mean.
I’ve seen people huffing and puffing they will even change their party affiliation. And then what? Vote for republicans because the Democrats can’t magically fix this horrific reality voters put us in and gave Democrats exactly zero power to fix?
Bring this year’s energy’s to midterms, and then we’ll talk.
I’m sorry to have to say it this way but say it I must, it’s going to come out one way or another.
Grow up.
It sucks, but the time for imaginary perfect scenarios is over.
Mike Johnson said he would keep the government closed until…whenever. GERMANY said it would pay some of OUR military workers because they are not being paid. We are seconds away from major air disasters every single day.
Republicans said they would not give federal workers backpay despite the law requiring it.
And they have been trying to kill the ACA since it was passed.
This is a horrendous situation. And with very bad jobs data where would these federal workers find other employment? Do you care?
Republicans don’t.
And by the way, Black women are among the hardest hit by what republicans are doing to the federal government.
Here’s the simple truth, over and over again. When republicans lose, they win. And when Democrats win, we lose.
If ever there was a time to put purity aside, it’s now. If ever there was a time to not attack Democrats for trying to cover what limited bases still exist, it’s now.
If ever there was a time to admit, as I fully do, that we may not know everything about the situation as it stands and what is likely to come, it’s now.
And those of us who are spectators, who aren’t another missed check away from losing our homes, who might have to do this again in a couple of months, who aren’t hoping that people’s generosity holds through this month and the next, who aren’t looking at a bleak December if we can even get through November, maybe those of us who are actually basically OK right now, could spend some time thinking about those who aren’t.
And how it might feel to see person after person skipping over your terrifying reality to focus on “the fight.” How it might feel to want to speak up but knowing your feelings don’t match what everyone else is saying.
The heat you may be afraid to take.
What are we, republicans?
Welp, I’m used to the heat. And I’ve got enough snow to melt it all.
Anyway, that’s it for me to today. I told you you may not like it. Have a great day anyway.
