It’s the day after US Thanksgiving, and the sky is clear and blue and it’s freezing outside. Literally below, going to get colder, we’re under a winter storm watch for the weekend with as much as six inches of snow, last I heard.

I don’t mind, though.

We had a lovely, low key time yesterday, and I hope you did as well, whatever form that took.

And today is the infamous Black Friday. There is a lot of talk of boycotts, which is fine, but also if you need something and this is the only time you can afford it, I absolve you of any lingering guilt.

But please make sure the sale is really a sale and the price is really the best price because Black Friday isn’t what it used to be.

I remember when there were newspapers and they would be thick with the ads, and I loved to pore over them, page by page, no matter the store, no matter if I never bought anything from that particular retailer, it was fun.

To see those ludicrous deals they’d have if you lined up, first early Friday morning, then at midnight, then on Thanksgiving. That really did get out of control. And they only had one or two.

I also never went to those.

But my mom and I were known to take advantage of an online sale, especially from the no longer with us Carson Pirie Scott. “Carson’s,” though, is what we always called it. The sofa that is no longer my sofa in the place that is no longer my place was from Carson’s.

I know my opinion on the shopping may not be popular, but I also know that we are living in times where everything is far more expensive than it should be. I was just looking at winter boots, and the prices, even on sale, are pretty shocking.

By the way, I tried out my new coat I got earlier in the month, the one that doesn’t have down but is rated for the cold. I’m not entirely sure. I didn’t have gloves though. It’s comfy.

Anyway, this is a bit of a ramble, I guess, I wasn’t even sure I was going to post today, but I’m still in that calm, holiday-type mood and why not chat about the inconsequential?

That’s it for me this week, if you’re in the path of the oncoming storms, please be careful, and have a great day and an ideal weekend.
