It’s sunnier today but very chilly. Less chilly than I thought It would be, but still chilly, 24 F (-4.4 C). And there’s a wind chill, of course.
What else would there be.
Thank you so much for the coffee, Alex R.! It appears you too are dealing with this extremely Chicago weather, so a hearty coffee cheers! Nothing we aren’t used to, even if we’re a little out of practice. But the coffee is greatly appreciated, thank you!
And on to Tuesday.
We got those last two doors up, though the second one put up a real struggle. And the first was pretty easy so that made it feel even more personal. But we got your number, hinge.
So there are the magnetic closures and handles for the wooden doors to go. The counter rearranging has made a huge difference, so if your space is feeling cramped, don’t be afraid to mix things up.
This project has been an excellent distraction from what is happening these days, a myopic view inward, stopping at my walls. Because if you pause to think about all the horror, constant and ongoing, one thing papering over the last, it’s impossible to mentally contain.
Yes, the thugs scurried, left our beautiful city when it was no longer warm and lovely, but at the very first sign of it baring its teeth.
We think it’s cold and lovely, but that’s the thing about being a Chicagoan, there are the days of long sunsets and perfect temperatures and neighborhood events, and there are the days the wind bites.
Pity it didn’t get to bite the right people.
We’ve got the military shrugging off what sounds, to me, from my distant, nonmilitary view, like murder. No actual crimes charged or proved, no evidence presented, just a “knowledge” that the people deserved to die because the guy in charge said so.
These are not great lines to cross.
Look, I don’t know how to make any of it better, how to take what is happening and make it not so. What we can do is vote, vote vote vote, and make clear that gerrymandering only works if the people who voted for you before keep doing it.
They have a lot of reasons not to now.
Manipulation of the vote, that’s another story and one way beyond my powers.
Here we are, thrown into the mess because of some arrogant men who insisted they knew what was best, when we didn’t have to be here at all. So I’m not looking to those same arrogant men for a way out, they’re striding in circles, more confident than the rest of us but just as lost.
And when my thoughts get this big and broad and deep, so much that I might lose my bearings inside them, I think about cabinet fronts and door handles.
It’s one way, I guess.
Anyway, that’s it for me on this Tuesday, have a wonderful day no matter the weather.
