It’s our first Friday in December–I was typing January, so I guess my brain is ahead of itself–and it’s pretty chilly out. Sunny, though.
Today I am thinking about how literally every single way to clean or tidy these days is a “method.” “The two-foot method.” “The Four Step method.” “The Just Get On with It Method.”
I may have made that last one up.
But what is it about having a title to steps we’ve heard over and over and over again that makes it seem more approachable? Easier?
Are our brains that easily fooled?
Well I just watched a video about a woman who swallowed part of a glass straw that broke, and apparently people didn’t realize glass straws could break so maybe they are.
Maybe they are.
I suppose it doesn’t matter what you call it, as long as you get it done.
Not that I have any to do or anything. Or laundry to put away. I feel like I forever have laundry to put away.
It should really put itself away this far into the 21st century.
“The laundry puts itself away method.”
I’ve seen the robot housekeepers they have to offer at this point and honestly, right now, I think I’d have to say no. And not just because the prices are enough to make you stop breathing for a minute, but it takes more work to get them to do the work than it would take to do it yourself.
I’ve stumbled on the things that tend to work for me, no matter what the task I’m avoiding: Setting a timer; and/or choosing between that task and one I want to do less.
Surprisingly motivating.
And when all else fails, there are naps.
Anyway, that’s it for me for this Friday and this week, with this little foray into the frivolous, this bit of fluff that doesn’t need to be swept away. I hope you have a wonderful day and a perfect weekend.
