It’s still very cold, though slightly warmer at 15F (-9.4 C) with a mixed sky. It looks like a normal day, here on the other side of a weekend of horrible chaos.
Friday’s frivolity seems very far away indeed.
In that short span of time, a horrendous school shooting at Brown University, with the suspect once again apparently at large; an antisemitic mass shooting at a beach in Australia, with a death toll now at at least 15; and the ghastly murder of Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele Singer, with their son arrested this morning for the alleged crime.
All of this against the backdrop of the slew of horrible things that were already happening, and it’s starting to feel like a heavy-handed, depressing novel you somehow keep reading even though you hate it.
I’m not sure I have anything pithy or insightful to say about any of it, I’m still mentally sifting through it all as we all are. You already know my thoughts about guns. At least Australia seems like it’s going to take this attack seriously.
Here? Not so much.
The world feels so bleak, so drained of color, as though those movies from the 40s weren’t actually shot in black and white, but life itself was only shades of gray.
It’s easy to be overwhelmed.
So let’s be overhwelmed.
But keep moving forward anyway.
Keep an eye on 2026 anyway.
Refuse to give up anyway.
And have a great Monday.
