It’s gray right now, I don’t know if it’s raining or will be raining or has been raining, but we did get a fog advisory, so there is that.

Before we get frivolous, or sort of frivolous, as you’ll later see, it’s on topic but, well, we’ll get there, thank you so much, Gail, for the coffee!! It was truly a cozy holiday treat, and I really appreciate it. I am so thankful for you!

And speaking of, thank you, Modern Mulan (WINK) for the coffees as well! I am so grateful for your support. You are really there for others, in a way which is truly about helping, though you do it quietly. Extremely thankful for you too!

And on to Friday.

I suspect it was the pandemic, and it’s difficult to remember life before, but there used to be far more obligation in social events. Refusing them itself felt improper; being without them was like a mark of shame, of not belonging, of being, gasp, unpopular.

Even the events with family were fraught with expectations so high you couldn’t see them without binoculars.

Then they couldn’t happen, and things changed.

It turns out, for me, not having that stress, not having the obligations is actually freeing. And now, as we head in to New Year’s Eve, a night where having a good time can seem like it’s a harbinger for the entire year ahead, I think it’s the best opportunity to redefine what a “good time” actually means to us.

“Have to” is not worth the time and energy for something that is supposed to be fun. There is so much to drain us right now, why add the things that are meant to be enjoyed to that pile?

All of that is to say however your end of the year looks, I hope it’s one that you can find or cultivate bright spots in, whether that includes others or not, whether it fits a vision or not.

So maybe this post wasn’t itself frivolous but it’s kind of about frivolity? I’m counting it.

Have a great Friday, and an incredible weekend.

Buy me a cup of coffee!
