It’s cold again, 19 F/-7C, and it’s sunny, though they warn us a storm is coming.
Is it ever.
This is not the kind of thing I want to speak out into the ether, but on the other hand, we have to be realistic about where we are. And it’s not great.
The excuses for violence are just that: excuses. We know they have no basis in reality. And the other thing?
They know they have no basis in reality. They know it is clear and obvious, but that is the whole point.
They are beyond justifying it within the framework of our laws and Constitution. They are beyond anything aside from feeling entitled to do it because they want to do it.
I need to underscore that republicans in Congress could put a stop to all of this right now, literally as I’m writing this post, if they wanted to.
Democrats cannot because they don’t have the votes.
I’ll say that again as people seem to have a lot of trouble with this concept and apparently with basic math. DEMOCRATS DO NOT HAVE THE VOTES.
But republicans are not ending it. They’re allowing it to escalate. They’re allowing him to talk about First Amendment protests as though they are some kind of insurrection.
As though dissent itself, enshrined as a right within our founding document, is, itself, insurrection.
I will reiterate, republicans could stop this at any time.
How far away are tanks rolling down the streets of Democratically-led states?
He’d do it tomorrow, just as he’d invade Greenland, just as he kidnapped the president of a sovereign nation. Republicans are allowing him to start wars, invade other countries, threaten even more countries, to live up to his claim that the only limit to his power is his “morality.”
We need to get past if to when. Because we are looking straight into the abyss of when, with the possibility of major international conflict as well.
You-know-who’s dream. Break up the US. Handed to him on a platter from an easily-flattered malignant narcissist with apparent major secrets to hide.
Prepare yourselves. I don’t say that to scare you or to be alarmist or to gain clicks or views, I took off the ads from the site so clicks are irrelevant.
I say it because those four years with President Biden were only a peaceful sandbar in a raging ocean. The best way to prevent this would have been to prevent it entirely, but people just couldn’t do that.
I’m sorry this is depressing, I’m sorry it’s scary. I’m depressed. I’m scared too.
But here we are. People often get angry at truthtellers, rather than at the people who created the reality, so let’s not do that. Put the pressure on republicans to stop this while it can still be stopped.
Please have a safe Thursday.
