It’s pretty warm out right now, though exactly how warm is up for debate, and I am very sneezy. I am thinking spring has sprung.
So say my sinuses.
Last week I was talking about how we replaced that Ninja Combi multicooker, and now the new countertop oven has had a chance to settle in. And all these gadgets come with features you think, eh, I’ll never use that.
Well.
It has a cookie setting. And I thought why on earth would it need a whole setting for cookies? I am an emperical person.
I had to check it out.
They were the best cookies I have ever made, using the base recipe I adapt to different add-ins. I had to watch them because they were cooked faster than the instructions suggested, but you always have to watch cookies and get them out when they are just right, crispy edges, soft middles.
I was kind of stunned.
Next I baked a batch of muffins in it, as it’s wide enough for a regular muffin pan. Also beautiful. I could watch them bake, which is cool.
This was one of those things where I expected less and got more, which is rare. It fits pans up to 9×13, so I think I’ll be doing most of my baking in it.
Right now we are at a place where it’s hard to even hope for anything, let alone expect it. The things we took for granted are being dissolved in a hateful acid, deliberately, maliciously.
The discovery of something performing not only as advertised but exceeding expectations feels like a surprise. That it was a product that was bought does speak to our overwhelming capitalism, in multiple ways, but there’s not much I can do about that on a Monday morning in a timeline packed with things that still manage to surprise us in bad ways.
Anyway, that’s it for me today, and maybe you too can try something you already have and find a good surprise.
Have an excellent start to your week.
