(A drawn image in bright colors with a road with lots of exit ramps and colorful buildings and trees.)

It’s a sunny one today and the weather seems to be matching the uplift in mood I’m seeing everywhere. With our presidential candidate, Vice President Kamala Harris, and our vp candidate, Governor Tim Walz, selected and in place, it seems like we’ve suddenly all had permission to just…laugh.

It’s like waking from a nightmare, this emerging from what feels like the darkest and most sinister tunnel. It’s difficult to believe anyone every bought into “vote for us, we will make your miserable lives worse, but less worse,” let alone that anyone still is.

Judging by the size of the crowds for trump and vance, few people are still buying in.

I saw a segment this morning that had a white woman host showing the camouflage Harris/Walz hat, with the names in what she described as “blaze orange.” In a tone that sounded like a lament, she bemoaned how “they” are “trying to take” white men, like Democrats want to serial kill them and not give them healthcare and fair wages.

Personally, this whole shift feels, to me, like a series of newly-opened exit ramps. It’s a fresh opportunity for people, mired in the energy burn that is constant anger and hatred and resentment to simply not have to live that way anymore.

As they are saying about the campaign, we can choose joy.

How lovely is it that it’s possible again? Simple joy?

Not a weird kind of loyalty which demands you hate the right people for your leader, a man who, let’s be honest, no one actually likes who doesn’t care if you’re alive. Who actually encouraged people do to things that killed them.

I mean.

So imagine the opportunity to let that all go, let it be the fevered nightmare it was, and be a regular person again.

No wonder so many republicans are jumping ship.

Now let’s be clear, this doesn’t resolve any of the underlying issues with republican ideology or policy, but as long as they know they don’t get to change our agenda, their votes are welcome.

And who knows, maybe with the room to reflect they’ll see how what they’ve been railing against is their own happiness and well-being.

That’s it for me for this Wednesday, have a great day.
