Yesterday was just a one-off, apparently, because we’re cloudy again and I think it’s supposed to be cold and getting colder. It’s that time of year once more.
Speaking of, someone on Spoutible posted this Thanksgiving song from Bob’s Burgers yesterday and now it’s stuck in my head, so here’s the extended version from the credits. Also the wildly talented John Roberts (the good one) improvised the song!:
You really can’t beat a Bob’s Burgers Thanksgiving song. Here’s another of my favorites:
And if you didn’t know, that’s the incredible Megan Mullally as Gayle, along H. Jon Benjamin as Bob.
You might notice I’m not in a serious topics mood this morning, and I think that’s where I’m staying for the next few days. Because we will have plenty of time for serious topics, almost relentless time.
Instead, today, I’m in a space of quiet escape, buoyed in part by a thread of mine over on Spoutible. It started with a simple poll asking people what they’re doing on Thursday, and now, it’s a virtual coffee shop, people dropping by to have a little chat as they get on with their things.
And that, in itself, is lovely.
Along with our anger, with our shock, with our disappointment, with our grief, we need to carve out room for joys as well, be they small or large or medium-sized.
We should savor them without guilt.
Because there will always be people telling you to calm down or how to react or how your reaction is wrong, and all of that is simply another means of control. If you can enjoy something, it doesn’t mean you also don’t understand that others will be in pain in a myriad of ways.
It’s way of forcing us to shut down because eventually, no matter how much a person believes they can withstand, no matter how much a person believes they can take, even the most solid of stones eventually crack and are worn by the elements.
I don’t know why some people seem to thrive on the misery of others. That’s a mystery I will never unravel.
All I know is I will enjoy Bob’s Burgers and its incredibly talented cast as we head toward another Thanksgiving holiday.
Have a wonderful Wednesday, and a perfect holiday in whatever form that takes, if you’re celebrating and if I don’t post tomorrow (still on the fence).
Now “Pass! The cranberry sauce, we’re having mashed potatoes!”
