It’s sunny and chilly, not that cold, really, for January, it’s even supposed to go up to the 40s today. That’s not too bad.

Today is one of those days when I’m rooting around in my head, scrambling for something to talk about. Everyone who writes has days like these; or hours like these; or minutes like these.

Only here I can freely talk about it.

They are moments where it feels like all the words have ended, the cupboard is bare and there will be no more deliveries.

So far, of course, that hasn’t been the case, but there is always that underlying feeling that maybe, maybe this time it’s going to stick. Making something from nothing is never easy.

Granted, this is true for all creative endeavors, not only writing.

Sometimes it feels as though creativity is like fog, you can’t grab it, sometimes you can’t really see it, and other times, it’s so thick you can’t see anything else.

Other times, it’s a solid widget, piled in boxes, reliable, ready for use.

I think those are the times that lie to us the most.

Whether, “in these trying times” as ads loved to say during the pandemic, your creativity is low or like a force you can barely control, it’s not an indictment or a character flaw.

We all deal with things differently and creativity can be the form of process for many.

But it also can be incredibly difficult for many when the world has gone awry.

For me, it’s up and down, but that’s the case normally. There are times I can’t rely on being creative, and instead, have to put my head down and get through it, word after word after word.

Don’t relinquish your creativity, but also don’t despair if it doesn’t come to you as faithfully as it has.

We’re all adjusting.

Have a great Wednesday.
