It’s still chilly, and it’s rainy, and I just saw an alert that temperatures will “plummet” on Saturday. Hmm.
Checked my app and the temp on Saturday is supposed to be higher than it is today so that alert can calm all the way down. There’s enough to worry about without winter in May.
But there’s a bit of a glow in the sky in a spot where it shouldn’t be, I’m not sure if that’s a break in the clouds and reflected sun or maybe the aliens are here at last.
Could go either way.
I’m not one of those people who assumes if aliens were here it would be to harm us. I often think that concept is more of a reflection of the violence of humanity than a likelihood of extraterrestrial life.
Instead, I think such vast space exploration is more likely driven by a thirst for knowledge, to learn the unknown. Because it would take a high level of curiosity to create that level of technology.
I just don’t think greed is enough.
I mean…look at the exploding rockets.
Maybe that’s a reflection of my own humanity, though.
Could go either way.
I’ll admit I still have bursts of illogical and nonsensical hope of rescue of some sort. A lifetime of fairytales will do that to you, I suppose.
A fascination with Doctor Who.
We could really use the Doctor right now, as things stand. Ah, the cruel limitations of fiction.
It’s seductive, isn’t it, the idea that someone will be along any minute now, will wave a magic wand or sonic screwdriver–take your pick–and everything will be better.
Now some will tell you nothing is impossible but frankly, I don’t like our odds.
The road back will be unglamorous, even more unglamorous than the road to get here, and I think we have to settle ourselves into it.
No flashy aliens, not even in cool bowties or stripey shirts or blue police boxes; no superheroes, human or otherwise.
Only the tedium of daily pressure, of telling people what they’re not aware of, of voting, voting, voting.
Because the next phase will be worse than tedious, and we can all see it there, lurking.
Could go either way.
We may not want to see him or talk about him but that’s not fixing it either.
The truth is the truth, whether we want to see it or not.
So see it. Don’t allow the false bliss of ignorance, the price is much to high.
And with that, I wish you a wonderful Wednesday.
