It’s sunny, warmish coolish, and we’re off into the uncharted territory of November. At least this particularly November.
I don’t want think about last November.
If you have an election coming up and you are watching the world with a helpless dismay wondering what you can do, you can vote.
That’s your power.
You can vote.
If you are looking at an empty cupboard or know someone who is, please take this on board: it’s empty because republicans do not care if you starve. They want you to starve. They are doing this so you will starve.

And they’re starving you so they can make your healthcare unaffordable, essentially taking it away.
That’s what the shutdown is about. Republicans want to end subsidies for ACA plans. That means they want you to pay the full premium, when you may have been paying a fraction.
Democrats are trying to preserve those subsidies for you.
Additionally, there are funds which, by law, are to be used in this case to continue food assistance.
Republicans have CHOSEN not to use those funds. A federal judge ordered the funds be used within days, but we’ll see how it plays out.
Think about that. You can cast a vote for someone who is still happily insured by taxpayer money, earning a salary of taxpayer money, who will not and does not feel the slightest pinch right now who is using you as a hostage.
And republicans are willing to let you die.
That is what happens when people don’t have food.
That is what happens when people don’t have access to healthcare.
People DIE.
We are not living in a random collection of circumstances. Every single thing that is happening, from the extrajudicial killings of people in the Caribbean because donald says they’re “drug dealers;” to the thugs roaming major city streets, throwing tear gas, brutalizing people for how they look or saying mean things to them; to the end of food assistance; to the killing of ACA subsidies, every single thing is very carefully orchestrated and planned.
This is what Republicans WANT. This is what Republicans have WORKED DECADES FOR.
They.
Do.
Not.
Care.
About.
You.
It’s all fun and games while it’s someone else, but I can assure you, one way or another, it will be you, sooner rather than later.
So vote. Vote.
Take away their power over you. Take away their power to dictate your life, and to intentionally and thoughtfully make it miserable.
Last year was no dress rehearsal. This year, we can only hope to shore up democracy crumbling around us for a bit longer.
