It’s another gray, cloudy day, but at least this one doesn’t have me driving all over the greater Chicagoland area. Yesterday we logged 99 miles.

Not 100.

99.

There was the dentist, which is way, way, far away, at least an hour each direction, but he’s really worth it. So is the office. If you have any kind of dental phobia, if you can find an office with great office staff, a consistent and talented hygienist, and an excellent dentist, I can’t even explain to you how much it will decrease over time.

The professionals involved really make a difference.

After that, we had another 40 minute drive from there to pick up some items ordered from Ikea that, for some reason unknown to me, could not be delivered here, could not be picked up at the actual store in Schaumburg, but instead had to be retrieved from a “pick up point” at Gurnee Mills.

If you don’t know, Gurnee Mills is an outlet mall not far from the Wisconsin border, right down the road from Six Flags Great America. It is enormous.

Luckily they had exact directions through the mall parking lot, and we snaked our way around stop signs that looked like they ended, through sharp corners, to a little tucked away loading dock that looked like a terrible idea, and the freezing drizzle didn’t help matters.

Now that’s real November.

The guy, who apparently sits all day alone in that horror movie office with its green florescent lighting and exposed pipes, kindly loaded the car for us. We’d gotten new doors for some of the kitchen cabinets, a fix I hope will work, we’ll have to see how it goes.

Then it was right into the worst of traffic, so we found somewhere to eat before braving the 90 minute drive home.

Whew. I’m tired just typing about it.

And that was the day I wrote about yesterday, the day I had to get though. I did, and let me tell you, sitting down on the couch at the end of that trek was a a treat. So much done.

We’re going to see how difficult putting up the doors is, and then we may change all of the upper cabinets. So I went to see what that would cost, and would you believe it?

I don’t believe it.

But would you believe it, they are now not only available to pick up in Schaumburg, which would have been much closer to the dentist, but they CAN BE SHIPPED DIRECTLY.

To.

Us.

ARGGGHHH.

So it goes.

Anyway, that is all I have to report today, I think I missed almost all of yesterday’s news, and I’m not sure if it will matter, if it will be swallowed by today’s catastrophes. I’ve retreated again into my minor tiny world, elevating the insignificant to important status, at least for today.

Wish me luck with the doors, I will try to take some photos. Now that I am watching more YouTube I’m not sure I’m not legally required to make a video, which makes me think of one of my favorite episodes of Bob’s Burgers, “Loft in Bedslation” and Tina’s quip, which is, roughly, “do you think anyone’s ever built a loft bed and not made a video about it?”

Anyway, that’s it for me on this Wednesday, I hope you have a lovely day, whether your attention is pointed to the large or small, the meaningful or the comfortable.

Buy me a cup of coffee!
