It was supposed to be sunny today, but we started off with fog. It seems like it’s burned off now, though, I’m pretty sure those are blue skies.

But you can never be certain about blue skies.

Today I realized that talk of invading Canada is the plot of a John Candy movie, I’m almost sure, Canadian Bacon. I’ve never seen it, but I’ve done a quick google and here is the synapsis:

In a desperate bid to revive his abysmal peacetime approval rating, the president of the United States (Alan Alda) agrees to a scheme proposed by corrupt cabinet member Stu Smiley (Kevin Pollak) and launches a top-secret propaganda campaign to vilify Canada. As U.S. citizens get caught up in a xenophobic hysteria, a group of residents of Niagara, N.Y., wielding machine guns, organize a vigilante invasion that could trigger a real war with America’s gentle neighbor to the north.

UMMMMMM.

The number of frothy comedies that have warned us about this exact moment in time isn’t exactly low.

I’m having one of those days where each new piece of information elicits an internal “of course.” Bandwidth is short and outrageousness is high, and all around us is the evidence of what happens when too much is handed to too few.

Even the thought of how we easily could have avoided all of this only makes me want to crawl back into bed with the covers over my head.

We are one week into this year, and I hate to say it, but it’s like last year decided to piggyback.

Ugh.

Aren’t I a bowl of sunshine today.

But it’s bound to happen, overwhelming things make people overwhelmed.

And all of this? It’s overwhelming.

The sheer number of people happy to see it through, happy to take part, well, that’s the aspect that icks me out the most.

So I guess my point is this. I am overwhelmed. You probably are as well. So I will take ten minutes today, whether to breathe, to craft, to watch something, whatever it may be, just to exist outside of it.

And I hope you do, too.

Have a great Wednesday.
