It’s sunny, not too cold for February, and I was struck today how on some mornings when the ideas are low and the coffee isn’t quite bulldozing the cobwebs as it should, I feel like a kid kept in during recess to finish her work.
“I will not leave my posts blank. I will not leave my posts blank. I will not leave my posts blank.”
You get the idea.
These days it’s not a lack of words but far, far, far too many of them, clamoring, crowding, demanding space.
Not all of them are fit to be heard, though.
I’ve felt pretty pessimistic this last little bit, and I don’t always like to share that, because I fell like it can be very contagious. Hope is delicate right now.
I don’t want to tear at its wings.
So things get layered and congested and I end up sitting here, staring at the blocky angle where buildings meet sky, and waiting for my fingers to just get going.
Here are some good things.
Democrats have outperformed expectations over Republicans in special elections, and not by a little, but by a lot.
A deadline is looming for DHS funding, and you can contact your rep about it, and remind them that complying with the Constitution is not a concession, it’s a basic requirement for an agency to exist.
Names are being named in the whole epstein saga, and while I don’t know yet if that means any justice will come–it hasn’t so far–it’s some progress.
Benito “Bad Bunny” Antonio Martínez Ocasio reminded us that “America” is not one country, and what the US can look like if we just embrace it and allow ourselves to enjoy nice things.
Like incredible, outstanding performances.
Feel free to add your own.
And with that, I leave you, last repetition completed, free to join recess after all.
Have a great Wednesday. Not giving into pessimism is work, but we can work on it together.
