It’s a nice, sunny day, but I’m not seeing it. There are so many things I don’t want to talk about right now, as the world gets heavier and heavier and heavier.

You’ve seen the news. You’ve seen the things I’m talking about. You’ve seen how the white men in power are dancing their way into fascism, not sliding, but dancing, the moment they’ve waited for all their lives.

You’ve seen how they’ve escalated the violent talk, and like sticking a dollar in a vending machine, their order pops out the other side.

Young Black men being lynched (authorities don’t suspect foul play).

Homeless encampments under gun siege (surely nothing to do with the Fox News guy who said “just kill them” days earlier).

Threats at HBCUs, threats at schools, shootings the same day as a guy who said it’s OK some people have to die for the 2nd Amendment died for the 2nd Amendment.

Here’s why I don’t want to share my thoughts with you today.

I am not optimistic.

As the powers that be have created a completely false story around that shooting, despite publicly-available facts that demonstrate the opposite, and news orgs just go with it, and that narrative is being used to justify far worse against people who do not have a thing to do with it.

Imagine if all white men were put under suspicion at all times and made to explain the white men who commit these shootings. That never happens.

But they can falsely claim it was someone with “left wing ideals,” despite evidence that’s not true, and suddenly we’re all left to justify our existence. Our thoughts have practically been criminalized.

How to we come back from that? How do we fix it?

I really have no idea. Just none.

And it’s a mood I don’t want to pass on. I think we missed our last opportunity in November last year, and this is a boulder rolling downhill, gaining momentum.

We often get scolded for being downers or whatever, but this isn’t being a downer. This is being realistic. When people are being fired for not mourning someone they despised, at the behest of the government itself, what recourse is there left?

I mean if you have the ideas, let’s hear them. Today I don’t have ideas. Today I sit in a city ICE has decided to jubilantly terrify, under threat of military deployment, because you can never trust that creature to keep his word.

Where do we go from here?

Get yourself in order. Get your personal universe in order, the very best you can. The future is a thick, thick fog, and I don’t like the fuzzy shapes in it.

Anyway, that’s what I’ve got today, a little like a flame that’s only left with the smoke. But given how heated earlier in the week was, I guess that’s to be expected.

Have a great Wednesday.

  1. Yes I hear you. Feeling that too. You asked for suggestions.
I think that a lot of people read “Indigenous” and think it isn’t relevant to themselves or that the solutions won’t or don’t apply. I think Indigenous narratives and solutions need to be included. Americans are in a crisis, what they thought was “democracy” wasn’t and was never intended for “everyone”…if it was the Suffrage Movement, Civil Rights Movement, American Indian Movement, etc etc would never have been or are necessary since colonization. My sense of “crisis” is generational…I was raised understanding that we are at a Crossroads. What we choose to do is very important and we would not be here if we aren’t necessary for good collective changes. Today I was looking for a quote by Brother Phil Lane Jr…instead found a 2018 article with Chiefs Phil & Ruben George about the “Fourth Way”. Not as good as sitting in Circle with them, all the same the narrative is clear and hope you may find something in the 16 principles to feed your Spirit.

    1. Thank you so much, I’m checking it out now, and I hope so too. Crossroads is a very good description of it.
