Still sunny, still chilly, not seriously cold, but a reminder of the chill that’s on its way. Round we go.
I’ve seen a lot about the propaganda spread regarding aid and disaster advice, with people claiming the government is controlling the weather with “space lasers,” to send hurricanes. Let me translate that for you, it’s thinly veiled antisemitism, and not new at that. “They” in this context, are reliably meant to be Jews, and everyone is supposed to simply understand.
The additional hint is the “space lasers.”
People are actually listening to these almost-certain means of death and destruction, likely cooked up in this round by a russian troll laughing to himself about stupid Americans as he gets his bot army to disseminate the lies.
But here’s the thing. The people who are voting for Harris/Walz know what the government is doing. Anyone who is not prepared to follow the ridiculous to their literal death is also likely to see who, exactly, is offering help and who, exactly, is refusing the calls offering help.
The refuser is desantis, in case you were wondering. As his citizens pondered where there was even to go as the gas runs out and hotels charge high prices, as they did with Helene. Note, in the article about the high prices, the song and dance used to justify what appears to be gouging: “high demand.”
Those are republican words, by the way. Greed at any cost, and at any price.
In a state with different governance, such gouging could be prohibited. In a country with a fully Democratic government, such gouging could be prohibited.
So who’s policy is pro-gouging?
Obviously Republicans.
That’s why they call raising policy differences in the light of a disaster “cheating.” When you see republican policy in action–maximizing profit off disaster while leaving citizens to fend for themselves–who would choose it?
Which brings me back to the propaganda. I think the initial thought is that liberals will cull ourselves, taken in by the nonsense, doing the opposite of established safety protocols when we have the choices to follow them.
Just like in COVID.
But what happened then and now? We’re not the ones listening. They’re shooting themselves in the foot with their own bountiful guns.
And I’m simply going to be honest here. I do not care one whit about a hate-filled, rage-filled bigotry-filled adult who has decided hurricanes are a conspiracy “to get” donald and republicans and make them look bad. If they want to go down with their houses or end up with a life-changing infection or get electrocuted in standing water or wacked into oblivion by flying debris or one of the other myriad ways extreme weather can make you vanish into history, so be it.
Personal responsibility, amirite?
If these supporters of the ones who harm them want to go into bankruptcy and ignore that it’s their governor’s fault they can’t get insurance because their governor sides with insurers and not them, and they won’t take federal assistance because the angry orange man and the man in the white boots tell them not to, that misery is their choice to bear.
My exception here, clearly, are children who do not get to make such decisions, and it breaks my heart they are subjected to such parents. And of course the people who have tried so hard to vote against it all. This year may be the year.
I am so beyond caring more about people who hate me at my very existence who also somehow expect me to be more responsible for theirs than they are. It’s ridiculous, right?
Democrats are not their mommies.
So once again, we will see how this comes back to haunt republicans, because the very people they need to vote for them won’t be there to do it or will be too busy trying to patch their own lives back together to worry about the ambitions of politicians.
And to that I say, emphatically, “shrug.”
Have a great Thursday.
