It’s gray and rainy, though I don’t actually mind it. No thunder though, just light, persistent rain you can’t really see.

Makes sense.

Before I shed even another drop of wisdom (not than any has actually been shed) thank you so much Bears Instead of Humans (WINK!) for the coffees! It really, really was a three coffee kind of day! Hopefully today will be more…energetic, I guess we’ll see when we get there. But I’m always so gratified when I am able to give shape to your thoughts as well. Thank you.

And now Wednesday.

I know I’m not the only one having a tough time with right now, I see so many people who look like the air has just gone out of them. There are fewer lively, lighthearted conversations; the conversational ether has that same edge that feels like the start of fall.

Or maybe I’m just not seeing the upbeat, that’s possible too.

It’s a natural reaction to all that is happening these days to feel like a deflated balloon. We have been up and down and up and down so many times in these past many years.

We’ve seen hope and relief and it’s been snatched away just as quickly. That sense of there must be something bigger, there must be something better, that can be very hard to keep going when the roads are dark and there are no lights ahead.

Many of us, here, in this country, have never been in this space before.

That alone is a type of privilege we may not have even realized we had, that privilege of existing day to day with a floor that seemed stable enough.

Turns out it was never stable.

And maybe we’d pulled a few too many rugs over the holes to remember where those were, and down, down, down we go.

But you know what?

It’s OK.

It’s OK.

If you’re deflated, be deflated. If you need a little extra air, take a little extra air.

We are in the longest marathon we’re ever going to run.

Breaks are fine. Even checking out for a little while is fine. We’ve got to do what we’ve got to do to get through it all.

And with that, I wish you a wonderful, restorative Wednesday.

Buy me a cup of coffee!
