I’m looking at a gray, perhaps misty, day, it’s tough to tell. It’s a day with a deep-seated need to be cozy and comfortable.

Me, not the day. Actually, I don’t know what the day needs, but as for me, I’m working on it.

Sitting here at the screen, in an excellent chair, second cup of coffee at the ready. Good inside shoes or slippers are an issue, though. I can’t seem to get those right.

There’s always something like that.

Sometimes it seems like life would be better if it was all a big jigsaw, poster included for reference. Piece after piece snapping into place.

Just don’t knock them off the table.

But it isn’t, is it?

There’s always that piece that looks like it belongs to another puzzle entirely, and maybe it does. Pieces with images so worn you can’t see them; pieces frayed around the edges; pieces that were never in the box, no matter how many times you look.

And those indoor hurricanes that can send them all flying, usually at the most unexpected time.

Not that hurricanes have expected times.

I should have gone with gust of wind, but I don’t know, it doesn’t feel ominous or chaotic enough. Because that’s what that is.

Ominous and chaotic.

Such is life.

Which, if we’re keeping track, is very much not a puzzle.

There are no satisfying clicks, either, with life. Or maybe I should say they are few and far between, those moments where something slides right into place.

Click.

I don’t know about you, but I don’t think I’m talking about slippers anymore.

Lots of deep, life-sized thoughts for nearly the end of Monday morning, I’d admit.

Maybe it’s the gray that makes me philosophical today. Maybe it’s the feeling like the world is being drained of color, quite deliberately, until everything is a uniform beige.

And not the nice, calming kind, either, but that plasticky beige, the one that is not a real color but the afterthought of colors.

But it’s quiet, at least, for the moment, quiet for a city rolling into the week, quiet for a sky that looks like it has some ideas.

And as we see how those proceed, I wish you a perfect and quick solution to the puzzles of your week.

Have a great Monday.
