I’m not sure what’s going on outside today, I’m too overwhelmed by the noise from the construction. I am hoping to coincide my writing with their lunch break.

So far, seems not to be working.

I am fully headached, which is always a good time, and I assume it’s from the delightful sounds from below. My dad described it as “Trio for Piano, Hammer and Grout Saw.”

At least there’s still humor.

The thing about something like constant noise is even when you studiously, carefully ignore it, you, it wears on you.

Much like what’s going on in the world. Heap on to that a pile of personal bigotries others experience every day, and you can understand why health takes a toll, why everything takes a toll. A little part of you, no matter how you try to get beyond it, is then occupied by it.

And it’s not like the people who create the environments of bigotry don’t know that. They pretend not to know it, but it’s a strategy. It’s a plan.

It’s a constant, grating noise.

I hope this is making sense, because I’m trying to think against the current here.

Wait. I think it’s lunch time.

What I’m trying to say is you may not know what someone’s construction noise is. You might look at people and think you understand, on some level, their struggles, but when they layer and layer and layer, the exhaustion that creates in a person is something that doesn’t only deserve empathy, it deserves relief.

Because our own construction noise can drown it all out for us.

We are in a national demolition, not of our making, and a lot of it is closer to home for some people rather than others. But we can’t let the noise divide us.

We can’t acquiesce to living in the rubble because the noise wore us down.

Because some people are living with noise from all sides.

That’s it for me today, I’m going to try to enjoy this little break of quiet. Have a great Thursday.

Buy me a cup of coffee!
