Well the construction is back, at least intermittently. It’s not nearly as bad as it was last week, and today it’s in bursts.
We’ll call that progress, for me and for them.
Earlier this morning it rained, and while there are still clouds, it’s also sunny, so who knows how the day is going to go. Who ever knows how the day is going to go.
If you do, you probably should buy a lottery ticket.
I’m watching the window washers on a building not too far away, dangling on their own separate ropes, buckets hanging next to them like crossbody bags. They always terrify me, out in the wind.
They don’t seem to mind it at all, as far as I can tell from here which really isn’t the best vantage point to gauge their emotions, now that I say that. But every day, they swing themselves off of the roofs of buildings, and make the windows glint like crystal in the sun.
Does crystal glint?
Now I’m unsure of my simile.
I’m not much of a risk-taker, not really. I’m certainly not the kind to put my faith in a rope and some kind of magical knot-clamp-contraption thingy and repel off the side of a beige brick monolith. Or float side to side, pushing off the exterior wall like an astronaut in zero gravity from window to window, a dance stories above the sidwalk.
I just burned my lip on my coffee. Maybe my warmer is a little too efficient. Let’s see if I can get the thread back.
Whatever these guys are paid, it’s not enough, I just saw one take a screen that came off when he lifted it, hold it against the wall with his leg–let me remind you he’s dangling on a rope–keep it there while he cleaned the window and then fit it back in.
With these kind of risks come even greater challenges. And maybe that’s the fear?
I think few people are as brave as window washers, but maybe we don’t have to be. Maybe, instead of worrying about falling, we should remember the rope is there to stop us.
Again, I assume. I don’t know anything about how those things work.
Anyway, that’s it for me today, I hope you have a wonderful Tuesday with calculated risks or no risks at all, if that’s your choice.
Have a great day.
