Here we are, suddenly at Memorial Day, and I’ve decided to take it easy and not tax the thinker too, too much.

But first, I would like to thank Susan Sampson for the coffee! It will be enjoyed at a leisurely pace today, I think. And your word was an integral one for the story, so for that I thank you as well! I hope you are having a peaceful day.

I have to admit I am a little flummoxed to craft a Memorial Day post today, when our nation’s veterans have been flung into harm’s way in yet another fit of pique. It’s hard to sound sincere about the loss of life while lining actual humans up like some kind of ritualistic sacrifice meant to assuage the ego of a single man.

An ego that will never be assuaged, that will never be calmed, that will never feel whole, so it was truly fantastic idea to give him all that power.

I guess what I want to say is this: not all of us think your lives are cheap. For the military families, not all of us think your loved one’s lives are cheap.

There are those among us who mourn you all, from the long fallen to the recently gone. Who want you to have all that you were promised when you signed up to defend our country; who want you to have proper healthcare and housing and educational benefits.

There has never been a better time to distinguish who, exactly, we are.

Democrats.

Yes this is political but literally everything is political and your lives can be decided by the whims of those to whom you grant power.

See above.

I’ve found that “don’t be political” is a tool to silence, a one way street, a wall to throw up between people and reality.

So yes, this post is political, because the deaths of soldiers is always, always, always political. The lives of soldiers are forever in the hands of politicians.

Choose them wisely and we’ll have fewer to mourn.

I wish everyone a very calm, reflective day.

Buy me a cup of coffee!
