It’s sunny, it’s about what you’d expect temperature-wise for summer, and I haven’t stopped finding moments where I’m shocked that we are where we are.

It’s not like we weren’t warned the first time, and here people plunged, headfirst, right back into chaos and despair.

Who chooses chaos and despair?

Even with the hope that someone else would experience more chaos and despair?

Right now, off the top of my head, I can think of at least three–no four–GoFundMes from community members on Spoutible, and three of them have at least a medical component. People are struggling.

And for people who were close to the edge before all of this, for people who were balancing on a fine point, a strong wind might have been a problem but we’re living in an endless hurricane.

I need to be clear that I don’t have answers. I had answers two years ago, when voting would have made all of this a bad dream. And we can hope that voting in a couple of months can act as a brake, can blunt some of the worst of it. I can’t dare to dream it will bring a stop to it.

All I can say is I see it. I see the people trying not to go under, and I see the hands extended, many trying to keep themselves afloat as well.

I think we need to focus on those hands. I think we need to remember that nations begin with communities, and in this modern world, a community can look like anything, it can be anywhere.

So maybe I do have one answer. Let us keep our eyes and energy on our communities, no matter how far they spread.

And have a great Tuesday.
