The storms have passed us by, dramatic as they were. There were winds recorded in Chicago as high as 85 mph; some places were a bit under that. It was another derecho, something I’d never heard of before it hit last time and my old building swayed like a reed.
They’re supposed to do that.
But when you’re high up, you can feel it. I don’t miss being that high, not if these awful storms are becoming a regular occurence.
We are clawing our planet apart, and some, for the sheer greed, will bleed it entirely dry, as though they have somewhere else to go.
They think they do.
They think they will be able to charge for everything, from the dirt to the air to the sky above. That is what they wish for.
That is what they want.
What a sad, sad, sad culmination of all that evolution, from a few proteins all the way to a being made 100% of avarice. Nature gone awry.
Today it’s fabulously sunny, nicely warm, exactly as a June day should be. But there is a lot of damage around the area, and there were also some tornadoes.
I haven’t seen deaths reported in Illinois, so that’s something, I guess.
I wonder how much of this we could have avoided. Some? All?
We are very much at the mercy of the will of this planet, that has never changed throughout the history of life here. But now that we have altered so much of nature itself, I would say it looks angry.
Who wouldn’t be?
Anyway, that’s it for me today, as the room darkens with a passing cloud. I wish you a wonderful Friday and a very excellent weekend. And if the extreme weather is heading your way, please, stay safe.
