This is that time of year when I start imagining a trip to somewhere, somewhere amazing, somewhere new.
It’s not going to happen.
I don’t want to get on a plane these days, for starters. Traveling internationally right now would take more fortitude than I have in my worn reserves, and I’m not exactly sure how it would be to be an American abroad at this moment in time.
Still, I look out the window and imagine a beyond, a someplace different, somewhere I’ve never been.
Although I’d definitely go back to Newfoundland. In a heartbeat, actually.
Anyway, it’s all in my head, there are no plans in the works, only the faint feeling that if I could escape reality for a while, when I came back, it would all be better.
How great would that be?
Not all that realistic, that’s for sure.
But possible in the way anything is possible.
Maybe I need to take a week off of everything, although I’m not sure I’d enjoy that either. Sitting down to chat with you here, well, that’s simply part of the day.
It’s not a chore.
I’m tired of the all the awfulness that seems, like a sewer leak, to spew with no end in sight. I’m tired of that condescending voice with that edge of barely controlled rage or uncontrolled rage, of the smug faces on all the headlines as they line their pockets with the people’s money and call us lazy.
I suppose it’s that I want a vacation from, and I want it to be permanent.
Only one way to do that.
