I’m taking a little break from writing for a couple of weeks, but I didn’t want to leave you with nothing to read, so for ten posts, I’ll share with you my Top 10 Ponderings of the Universe. Is the order meaningful?

Your guess is as good as mine. Today: Locally unknown.

Last week, I talked about aliens out in the universe, but there may not be a need to look so far away from home. There are estimates that we haven’t cataloged up to 90% of species on the planet.

As this Vox article points out we’re largely talking about very, very tiny things, not, for example, Bigfoot.

Who could also exist. I mean there are some odd things out there we’ve found, so why not?

And of course the oceans of this planet are very vastly under-explored. Well, I’m not sure that’s the right way to put it because everywhere we go we mess up other creatures’ homes, but we have very little idea of what might be down there, especially at the greatest depths.

And I’m not entirely joking on the Bigfoot thing, especially if it’s smart enough to stay away from us, given a brand-new (or undocumented by science because locals have seen them and call them Likweli) species of monkey was found in the Democratic Republic of Congo recently.

So many local “legends” (or oral histories) that have been ignored could turn out to be true, if we manage to document the creatures in time. Since we’re intruding on and destroying habitats before we can ever lay eyes on them.

But there is so much in this world we have yet explore, so much knowledge to be gained. If we can stop wiping it out to suit our own ends.

Anyway, that is it for Tuesday. Keep your eyes open, you never know what you’ll see.

And have a great day.
