I’m taking a little break from writing for a couple of weeks, but I didn’t want to leave you with nothing to read, so for ten posts, I’ll share with you my Top 10 Ponderings of the Universe. Is the order meaningful?
Your guess is as good as mine. Today: Grasping greed.
I know this isn’t the first time I’ve wondered at the depth and breadth of greed, particularly in this country, particularly in this moment of time. But it knocks me back every day, as bold and unabashed that it is.
It’s not something I can understand intellectually, either. No matter how I try to untangle that gaping need for more, more, more, it doesn’t compute in my brain.
How many houses does a person need? Why planes? Why stones that are better than other stones because they’re harder to find and sparkle more and also put more lives at risk to dig them from the earth?
What is better about more? How can there not be an “enough?”
People are hoarding piles of wealth our brains really cannot comprehend, more money than they and the generations to come can spend while they strain everything around them, including the economy and the environment and the humans they need to generate that money and maintain that money, as far as they can go and even further.
I’m not saying that everyone need to live within a vow of poverty, or that all of everything should be distributed by some government or group or whatever other option there could be.
We’ve seen that doesn’t work either, because there seems to be something within some people’s nature that makes greed a primary driving force.
But it’s one of those things, time and time again, that I try to work out and cannot. Because it causes so very much harm.
And with that, onward into Monday. Have a fabulous day.
