I’m taking a little break from writing for a couple of weeks, but I didn’t want to leave you with nothing to read, so for ten posts, I’ll share with you my Top 10 Ponderings of the Universe. Is the order meaningful?
Your guess is as good as mine. Today: I want to believe.
Full disclosure, I’m not an X-Files person (I know I’m also shocked by it. I’ve tried a few times and just couldn’t into it) but the sentiment holds: I am certain that out there, in all that vastness of space, with billions of trillions of stars with planets around them like the kids in a clique, there is more life.
What it looks like, and whether we could perceive one another as life, I couldn’t say.
I mean obviously.
Who could say, and if there is anyone on this planet who could they’re definitely not saying. Though I do think that whole reptile people thing is starting to seem less and less Doctor Who and more and more, well, look around.
But statistics alone would imply that there has to be more than what’s here. The odds of life happening only once, only here seems more farfetched to me somehow, and more rooted in some kind of human exceptionalism.
I love to let my mind wander over it, to put together landscapes in places humans could never reach, not even over generations. To fill it with who might be there, what paths nature could take.
There are so many mysteries so far beyond us.
