#MondayThoughts: Just change the light bulb.

Standard

(AI generated image of a purple light bulb in a room. WordPress generates AI images based on the post but this one took a little tweaking).

It’s overtly sunny today, though chilly for June, 60 F (15.5 C), and I am settling back into the normal rhythm of life after my amazing time in Costa Rica, which was followed by a less amazing time trying to leave Costa Rica followed by an even less amazing time with an unintended health souvenir.

But now I think I’m pretty much back to normal and ready to tackle some technological things that, at least for that moment in time, escaped me.

We’ll see.

Take, for example, my bedroom lamp, which is one of those with a bulb that can change color temperature. And for a while, when I turned it on, no matter how I left it, it was a blinding white blue green.

Not my favorite.

So I’d use the remote to leave it on something warmer, and then, when I switched it on again, there it would be, that glow that was somehow too bright yet not bright enough to give off meaningful light. And then..

Then it started flashing on and off when I turned it on. Like strobe light for a reluctant party of one, for a few days, it would sort itself out and then stay on. Then no more.

So I was talking to my dad about it, trying to find the right replacement bulb.

“It’s really annoying,” I told him.

“Not to mention headache-inducing. Just change the bulb.”

I paused for a moment. It hadn’t even occurred to me that I could replace that bulb with a regular, non-color-changing LED. Even though I’d already done that with a different lamp.

Side note, those color-changing bulbs do not last.

Simple solution, no more flashing light, and the warm glow I prefer.

It’s amazing how frequently we do this, get distracted by the flashing light, so much so that we can’t see the easy solution in front of us.

Don’t let the light take over.

Just change the light bulb.

And have a great Monday.
