#ThursdayThoughts ten word photo prompt: Open

That’s right, my friendly storytellers, this week you get TWO prompts! The fake Tuesday #ThursdayTen and today’s Thursday Ten, now with more Thursday!

OK fine, it’s the same amount of Thursday as usual, but more Thursday than Tuesday had.

Why yes my coffee DID kick in, thanks for noticing.

Anyway, using the image above as a prompt, write a ten word story.

Exactly ten words.

Ready? Here’s mine:

The door appeared.

Later, the ladder.

Josh volunteered.

Then vanished.

#WednesdayWisdom: If it’s safe to do so, go.

Standard

Yesterday I had some reservations about seeing some friends I hadn’t seen in a while. We sat outside; two of us were fully vaccinated, I have an official half-week to go, and the forth has had one shot. We were careful.

And we had fun.

Today I feel good in a way that is entirely new. I was unsure about picking up old threads, about venturing fully back into a world that has become, seemingly overnight, so dangerous. And yet I did.

And that’s the thing.

Sometimes if you don’t face it, if you don’t take it on, if you don’t try it, it looms larger and larger and larger until you can no longer see beyond it, you can no longer even contemplate doing it. With this pandemic, we absolutely run that risk.

So.

If it’s safe, and ONLY if it’s safe, do it. If it’s safe, and ONLY if it’s safe, dip a toe in the outside world again.

It just may be a kind of relief you didn’t even know you needed.

Have a great Wednesday.

They chatted nervously. The spaceship hovered, first contact looming overhead.

#TuesdayThoughts: Out in the world

Standard

I’m going to see friends I haven’t seen in a long, long time, not since the pandemic was lying in wait, ready to emerge, still not yet a global tragedy. And it feels weird.

The idea of sitting around with people to whom I am not related.

Very weird.

I may not be mentally ready for this, but then the question is whether I will ever be. If not now, will it feel less strange months from now?

A year from now?

Ever?

In the better part of a year in solitude, I adjusted to being by myself because I had to. It was what it was.

And now I’m used to it. Not, necessarily that I like it.

But I’m used to it.

Better not to get too used to it.

Have a great Tuesday.

#MondayThoughts: Almost thoughty

Standard

Is it gray? Is it sunny? Who’s to say.

Someone. Someone knows, but it’s not me. I can’t tell if it’s a thick layer of clouds over blue, very pale blue, or a combination of both. It’s just a day.

And a Monday at that.

There is hammering today, much, much hammering, the kind that makes the floor flinch with each blow. Construction season has begun, pandemic or no pandemic. So focus will have an extra layer of difficulty, but who doesn’t enjoy a challenge?

Most of us. Especially on a Monday.

I’m a week post-vaccination, and aside from a local reaction at the site, I’m pretty much fine. And the local reaction was more a function of my own system than likely to affect others, so take heart. And I’ve got one week to go until I’m fully immunized.

So that’s a woo to the hoo.

And that’s about it for me today, my mind is trying to gain a little traction and it just might be a very little traction. But some is better than none, or so I’m told.

Have a great Monday.

#FridayThoughts: Where are the rocks when you need them?

Standard

The weird weather earlier in the week has abated, and now it’s sunny. It’s supposed to get warm today too, finally here at the end of April.

End of April. Already.

Today I am mired in the much of people complaining that treating other people like actual people is too much of a burden. Not even that; they’re not even required to do it themselves, but witnessing other people treat everyone like actual people is too much of a burden.

We are in the wake left behind by the former guy, the nazi-in-chief, the racist misogynist who told everyone to be proud and open and abusive in their racism and misogyny and it’s a slimy place to be.

I look forward to a whole lot of people slithering back under a whole lot of rocks.

Can you imagine being such a terrible person and having no shame over being such a terrible person?

Me neither.

Anyway, I’m going to weekend my weekend, and I’m probably going to start early, whatever that means and I hope you start early, whatever that means. Have a great Friday.

Standard

It’s time for our #ThursdayTen! I was torn between pictures today but this is what you’re getting! And maybe you’ll get the other one next week.

Using the picture above as a prompt, write a 10 word story.

EXACTLY TEN WORDS.

You can do that, right??

Cool.

OK, ready? Here’s mine:

Trees vibrating, Agnes steeled herself; Elspeth’s bargain had come due.

#WednesdayWisdom: Changeable

Standard

It the last 20 minutes, it has been sunny, it has been gray, it has rained and it has snowed. It got sunny again and now it’s gray again.

Weird.

It’s like every few minutes of weather is a whim, changing as quickly as it’s noticed.

Life can be like that too, one thing and then very suddenly another. The best we can do is try to roll with the tide.

That’s a thing, right? Rolling with the tide?

If there’s anything the past 18 months has taught us, it’s how things are can drastically change. Adaptability has kept us alive as a species this long.

On we go.

That’s it for me, have a great Wednesday!

#TuesdayThoughts: Doing my part to save human kind

Standard

Well, I’m fully vaccinated. Not fully fully vaccinated, that will take a few weeks, but I’ve had both shots.

Yipee!

I set aside today to feel terrible and the reality is that I don’t. My arm is slightly sore, but not so much I couldn’t exercise. In fact I think that helped.

Honestly I felt worse the first time.

But I’ve decided I will still treat today like a “sick” day, only I don’t have to feel miserable to enjoy it. Why not? Doing your part to save humanity should have some perks, I think.

Yesterday the facility was far, far, far more crowded than the first time I went. It’s in the vast, echoey, empty remains of a furniture store, bruised concrete floors, bare walls, nothing left of what it was. First the line went back and forth, back and forth about half of its vast width.

Then, as you thought you were getting somewhere, you saw no, the length of the line doubled as it took nearly the whole width. And then, when you thought you’d rounded the final corner, there was yet another pocket of zigzags.

It was like customs without the fun of the destination.

But everyone waited distanced, patiently, moving through as they could accommodate. And that was that.

Speaking of that, that’s it for me, have a fantastic Tuesday, and maybe think about a “sick” day without the hassle of actually being sick.
