accountaclub-woodWeeeelllll…there were other priorities this week. Pressing life priorities. I had to help my parents clear many decades worth of stuff out of their house, which took up all of the weekend and most of the week, and yesterday I had an allergy attack thanks to the dust.

Not sure if anyone’s ever died from dust, but I could be a pioneer.

I had the whole deal, the streaming eyes, clogged nose. I’m still pretty sneezy today, in fact just talking about it I think just loaded up the old sneeze factory, I’ve sneezed twice writing this sentence.

Time for some more Sudafed, though not the kind you have to ask the pharmacist for and prove you’re not a meth lab. Hopefully that will help.

Not a stellar week for writing. Definitely a stellar week for finding stuff I didn’t know still existed, like some old dolls and some book favorites.

So AccountAbles, how about you? Did you kill it this week? Did it feel more like this week is killing you?

accountaclub-woodIt’s that time, AccountAbles! #AccountaClub Friday, where we talk about how our weeks went, and how we’re doing with our goals.

Mostly writing goals, but they don’t have to be; all goals and life changes are completely welcome! You can leave a comment here, or, if you prefer, write a post about it and drop the link in the comments so we can come cheer you on!

This week was definitely more productive than last. I think I’ve finally recovered from my vacation, which was amazing and fantastic and wonderful. And exhausting. Still haven’t gone through my pictures; maybe I should add that to the goals.

Writing-wise, not too bad, I started something that I thought was new, but then realized it was part of a project already underway. That’s a weird and kind of fun feeling when the writing seems somewhere outside of you.

Did my political piece, got a little editing done on that novel that is, at the moment, like plunging my hands into a trough of spaghetti. I really need to build up my editing endurance again.

Speaking of endurance, on a non-writing note, if you hang out here, you probably know I enjoy my yoga, which I try to do every day. That wasn’t possible on my vacation, as I was on a cruise ship and couldn’t even unfurl a yoga mat fully in the cabin, but I’ve gotten back into it since I’ve been home.

But I’ve found that, even when coupled with walking, the yoga just isn’t enough. I’ve tried to do other workouts later in the day, but found my motivation flagging. I’m a big fan of variety in my exercise, so I finally decided to try Daily Burn, a streaming exercise service with new interval workouts every day, I think, or probably Monday-Friday.

I didn’t join their site, I did it as an Amazon add-on, so it’s a little less ($14.99 a month versus $19.99) but it appears you don’t get access to the community features or live workouts. You can still stream the live workouts; you just don’t get them live.

And I love it. I LOVE IT. The workouts are really challenging, but only 30 minutes. You can’t get bored because they’re different; there are even different instructors each day. It has a positive, honest vibe. Totally a convert.

The best part is that it has really helped my focus. It burns (ha!) off much of the excess energy that can interfere with concentration. I think I’ve found a good balance between my AM yoga and these workouts, because I don’t have to worry about trying to intensify the yoga, I can just do what feels good.

And that’s my extra-long week!

How was yours?

accountaclub-woodSo we’re back, Accountables! (Yes, no? One of these days we’ll get a good nickname.)

It’s that time of the week where we chat about how it’s all going and give some updates on our ongoing projects! We had a bit of a break while I was on vacation, but breaks can’t last forever, and vacations can’t last forever, though maybe it would be nice if they did. Or maybe it wouldn’t because things that sound great in theory almost always go awry.

It’s possible I might be doing too much plotting. And not the overthrow the universe kind. I’ve had a project rattling around my head this week, an idea nearly formed, but not quite there. I need more research.

Ah, research, that bastion of legitimate procrastination.

I’ve also been readjusting to life in the real world, without daily maid service, with dishes and laundry and making meals and stuff that doesn’t get done unless I do it. I liked it so much the other way. No wonder so many writers came from the elite classes; they were the only ones with all that time made free to write.

So what I’m saying is it wasn’t my most productive week ever, but it wasn’t my worst week. I blogged every day, and that counts for something. Or so I decree.

How was your week?

accountaclub-woodWell hello #AccountaClub friends! And new friends! Did we decide on a name? AccountAbles? Other? Ideas very welcome.

So here we are at another Friday, and my week has been pretty hectic, which you likely know if you’ve been coming by. Not much writing done, but a lot of prep blogging, including this post.

Why, you ask, my dear hypothetical reader?

I’m taking a technology break! Yep.

Or let’s call it a technology diet. A skinnying if you will.

I hope you will.

Anyway, starting today, and for the next little bit, I will be spending less time with technology. I’ll try to pop in to chat on the comments (now you know why it’s not a fast, but hey, baby steps.) And I have something fun scheduled for you while you’re not getting my daily thought dump.

So let’s see how well I do. I think it’s going to be relaxing, but who knows!

How did your week go?

It’s another week down, friends! And I mean down, because it wasn’t great. No political piece again, but that’s because I started writing one yesterday and just couldn’t get it to work.

And then I realized I had a migraine.

So I may revisit that one today and see if it’s salvageable. Migraine writing is interesting, it usually sounds like I’ve dropped to writing at a third-grade level. So we’ll see.

I’ve made a little planning progress in a group project I’m involved in, I need to do some more background research, but I can feel the story idea percolating in the background as I go about everything else. Anyone else work that way? It’s like my subconscious is constructing it and I have nothing to do with it, I only need to feed it some facts.

No editing, but given the migraine situation, I think we can all agree that’s for the best as it would leave me with more to undo rather than anything done.

So that’s me this week. How about you?

#AccountaClub Friday and #JUkNOWUCanDoIt! June 29, 2018

Standard

So here we are at the end of #JUkNOWUCanDoIt! and to be honest, this month, I simply couldn’t. Reeling from the news I couldn’t even gather my thoughts to write about it yesterday. But #AccountaClub goes stalwartly onward, as it will be a regular feature.

Some weeks work; some weeks won’t.

My editing has stalled. I will get back to it, no question, but right now I needed to get away from the computer, which, these days, is away from words.

I did get onto a project I’d been putting off, painting two nightstands I use as coffee tables. They are/were a hideous, hideous dark wood, and they have every kind of trim you can imagine. I picked them up years ago in a thrift shop for about $5 each with the intention of painting them something bright.

Well, I finally got one painted, one to go. It came out really well; it’s a sunny sky blue and the paint has a nice even finish.

That’s something.

Thanks to Donna B. McNicol for her hosting of #JUkNOWuCanDoIt! and the extra hits of motivation this month!

How about you? How’s it all going?

#AccountaClub Friday and #JUkNOWuCanDoIt! June 22, 2018

Standard

Well, it’s that time again, our regular #AccountaClub Friday here and week 3 of #JUkNOWuCanDoIt!, the carry-on from #MAYkingItWork over at Donna McNicol’s blog. I don’t see her update posted yet, but it’s been a tough week for everyone, and hopefully she’s doing well.

So, if you don’t know, Fridays we gather to talk about how our work is going, whatever work that may be. I’ve been editing a manuscript; if you’ve been here at all this week, you probably can guess, given what is happening in the US right now, my attention was…elsewhere.

I did manage my political column, so at least there’s that, but that’s not a surprise, of course, in the context of the above.

How about you? How did it go? And if it’s “badly,” as did mine, that’s fine too.
