#FridayThoughts: A day and a week and a month.

Standard

Somehow it’s Friday and nearly the end of July and like the end of most months lately, I find myself wondering how. It was June five minutes ago.

Wasn’t it June five minutes ago?

I slept weirdly last night, and not well, waking up from dreams within dreams. Actually waking up was disorienting, as though it took a little while to be sure that this too was not a dream.

Though if this is a dream, at least it has coffee.

It’s as drifting as a dream, though, I’ve started and flittered away from this post countless times during the writing, short as it is.

So perhaps I should take my own hint.

I shall call it a day and a week and a month.

See you in August. Which, shockingly is Monday. Have a lovely Friday and a great weekend in the meanwhile.

#ThursdayThoughts ten word photo prompt: Path

Standard

Photo by Johannes Plenio on Pexels.com

It’s THURSDAY! Time for a #ThursdayTen!

Using the image above as a prompt, write a ten word story. EXACTLY ten words.

This week the image is a little different from the usual, so I hope you find it extra inspiring!

Ready?

Here’s mine:

Ahead, the end of the long wood. Finally. A door.

#WednesdayWisdom: The Unknowable

Standard

Well I guess we know how it’s going because I just spent five minutes making sure I was spelling “Wednesday” right because it looks so weird.

It looks so weird.

It’s sunny today and I feel hot even though I don’t think it is. Just checked. Nope, it’s pretty mild, with rain to come later. Which makes me wonder what happened to our rain overnight.

Maybe it did rain, maybe it didn’t, I don’t really know at this point.

Which brings me to today. There is much in the world that we don’t know. Often that we can’t know.

How to spell “Wednesday” shouldn’t be one of those things, but I digress.

We need to get comfortable with the not knowing. We need to understand that just because we don’t see it, it doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist.

The only information we have is that we don’t see it.

This doesn’t mean buy into ridiculous theories or unsupported nonsense, of course. But your tiny scoop of the world isn’t the whole world. It doesn’t contain all the facts of the world.

And when you think about it, that’s a comforting thought.

Have a great Wednesday.

(BOOM! Spelled it.)

#TuesdayThoughts: WD-40 for the mind.

Standard

Since it’s Tuesday, here’s my #MomUpdate, “Burning through bandwidth.” And off we go.

It’s sunny today, and much, much cooler. I don’t think it’s supposed to even reach 80, which feels wonderful after such heat. I think we may get rain later.

Promises, promises.

I wish I had a reliable way to get my brain going on mornings like this. Mornings…it’s almost noon. How did that happen?

Instead, the cogs are slowly, slowly churning. Maybe they make WD-40 for the mind.

Now THAT’S a billion dollar idea.

Somewhere along the way, all the hinges up there got creaky. At least today, maybe tomorrow I’ll be back to fully mentally flexible.

You never know.

Anyway, that’s it for me today, as scintillating as this post is. Have a great Tuesday.

#MondayThoughts: Right or left

Standard

It’s sunny but cooler today, I think, like the steamy heat never was. I am off to a slow start this morning, which seems like a normal thing for a Monday, really, no matter when in the year that Monday falls.

My iced coffee is delicious.

In my head, there are two parallel tracks for my day, two possible ways for it to go, and and I’m standing at the division, trying to decide which to take. Right or left.

Left or right.

On the whole of things, I’m not sure that it matters the order in which I do things, so long as they all get done.

And yet here I stand, trying to decide.

Right or left.

Left or right.

Have a great Monday.

#FridayThoughts: Think cool thoughts.

Standard

As you probably know by now, I got a Ninja Creami, the ice cream maker that is so incredibly easy to use, and I tried making frozen yogurt using a recipe I found online. I say recipe, it was literally only yogurt.

Just yogurt.

It froze pretty solidly though, so I ran it through the machine again. That worked.

But when I tried it again this morning, the texture wasn’t great. I used the re-spin function a couple of times, but still it wasn’t quite together.

I had it anyway with fruit and it was delicious. So you can’t by judge a frozen yogurt by its texture. I think the next round I’ll try adding some almond milk to thin it. The sorbet uses a little bit of corn syrup, I might do that as well and see if it helps.

So we’ll see.

At least these experiments taste good.

So that’s largely me this week, making bases and then processing them. It’s a little like magic.

I ordered some dried cream, it’s hard to find cream without additives, and then it spoils so quickly. We’ll see how that goes for the actual ice cream.

I’m a little obsessed right now. It’s hot, and they’re cool thoughts.

Anyway, that’s it for me this week. Have a great Friday and a fantastic weekend.

#ThursdayThoughts: Promptless

Standard

No ten word prompt this week, having some slight technical problems, and I don’t have the patience to try to figure out what isn’t working.

So it goes.

I’ll take it as a sign that we should all keep our eyes forward toward the hearing tonight, our last prime time hearing of the January 6 Committee. They will provide all the stories we need today.

It’s hot, of course, but not nearly as hot as in other places, and even so, I think the heat saps my reserves. I am definitely not a tropical island person, at least at the time of year you have to pay for all that endless beauty.

I’m more of a tropical island with plenty to do out of the sun kind of person.

But these wildly high temperatures should finally have us thinking about what, exactly, we’re doing to this planet. Some areas will be beyond the tolerance of humans.

What a strange thing to fight, taking care of the planet.

Anyway, that’s it for me today, just a bit of rambling with not enough caffeine.

And I never get to say this to you: have a great Thursday.

#WednesdayWisdom: All you need is a little paper towel.

Standard

Step one: remember it’s Wednesday, not Tuesday. Nearly got that one wrong.

Whew.

It’s a sunny hot day as one might find in the summer, and I am only half-awake, even now, even after coffee. Maybe what I need is another coffee.

Maybe there’s no maybe about it. I’ll be back in a minute.

And THAT’s on its way. It does pretty much mean all of the day’s ice-making efforts thus far have gone into iced coffee but really, isn’t that what it’s for??

The freezer will get its ice. Eventually.

Anyway, I am irritable today, I didn’t sleep well, and I’m generally edgy. Yesterday wasn’t the smoothest of days.

Like many days these days.

Iced coffee is ready. I may have hit the wrong button again, though. Or put in too much ice. There was a little overflow, oops.

Nothing a little bit of wiping couldn’t undo.

We spend so much time afraid to mess up, afraid to get it wrong, afraid to make mistakes. And most of the time, all you need is a little paper towel. Or something more environmentally friendly.

And ta da! It’s gone.

Anyway, that’s it for me today, have a great WEDNESDAY. WEDNESDAY. Not Tuesday.

#TuesdayThoughts: Hurry

Standard

First things first, my #MomUpdate, in case you want to read it: “I don’t really know myself.” And now Tuesday.

This is one of those mornings where whatever I’m doing, I feel like I should be on the next thing. Writing my mom update, I thought about this blog post. Writing this blog post, I’m thinking about what I’m doing when I’ve finished.

It’s a good day to practice my mindfulness, my art of being in the moment.

Just being in the moment.

Besides, I’d hate to feel that I’m jostling you out of the blog door, metaphorically speaking.

Ah, that’s better. It’s kind of amazing that it works.

It’s already hotter than I realized, I thought it was another mildish day but instead it’s almost 90 degrees and will be awfully close to it later.

Surprise!

Or maybe not, it’s the middle of summer, the proper middle of summer. Apparently it’s incredibly hot in Europe, and I’m so sorry for my friends there, especially in the countries that aren’t equipped for heat. I remember my visit to London and Edinburgh, and Edinburgh was almost chilly for summer. This kind of heat in a place like that…or higher…must be awful.

Please take it seriously, especially heat with humidity.

Anyway, that’s it for me today. I hope you have a great Tuesday.

#MondayThoughts: Roiling.

Standard

I’m steaming mad today, though at least the temperature doesn’t agree. It’s pretty moderate I think.

It’s also brightly sunny, as though the weather is pleased for a Monday. Well good for it.

I’ve been encountering subtle and not-so-subtle misogyny on wild twitter, from people I would hope would know better.

From people I would hope would believe better.

But they’re not going to read this anyway.

In a time where states are seriously discussing preventing women from freely traveling, there is no room for chortling and pointed fingers. No room for reliance on numbers I believe were gleefully and wrongfully compiled to make room for untoward actions we’ve never fully explored.

But wow do people love love love to hate women.

So do me a favor and try to catch yourself. See if you join in. See how quick you are to agree.

And have a great Monday.
