Standard

Hello AccountAbles!! It’s AccountaClub time, and let’s get into how it’s all going.

As you may or may not know, my big project for this week was making my armoire desk an inviting place to work. I’ve cleaned it out (VHS tapes, anyone??) taken out the old desktop computer that still has a 3.5 inch floppy drive, and managed to detangle the wires, which was, perhaps, the most onerous part of the job.

I mean what is it with wires? The moment I got them straightened out, they tied themselves in knots again.

I’ve got a surfeit of wires I don’t know if I’ll ever use or are needed in the 21st century and a bunch of stuff to take to Half-Price Books, where I’m sure I’ll receive a sum princely enough to purchase half a book.

But it will be gone, and that’s the key.

The only step left is the contact paper, which I’ve started and will wrap up today. So it should be done! Oh and I still have to get the stick-on light, but I’ll get that this weekend.

And I’ve got to tell you, I’m already excited to use it.

I’d like to get one of those white “leather” executive chairs, but one thing at a time.

Exercise-wise, I’m not going to lie, this week was HARD. Every single workout, except today’s Body Art flow, was a real struggle.

But.

I did it.

Five down.

OK, friends, how was your week?

  1. That is awesome! Doesn’t the space just look more inviting already? I can imagine what you’re going through.

Well, I told you I was in reviewing my first book’s first draft, and I finished reading it, making notes, and writing a synopsis. I have to say, I’m really glad I didn’t just plow ahead with that first one, writing, revising, rewriting, etc. After having written two completely different books’ first drafts, my writing is already better, and I’m excited to dig into this. Big things first, then I’ll do it all over and start working on the stupid “first book” word choices and all that.

    • Thanks, I’m really enjoying working in it, it literally blocks out distractions, including the view. When I get the office chair with wheels, it will be easier to take a looking break, but so far, so good.

I’m so glad your system is working for you! It’s funny, I definitely look for different things each time I go through a manuscript. And I agree with that assessment, those flourishes come last, once everything is locked into place!

So excited by your progress! You are KILLING it!

Ooooo … loving the sound of your new work space. I regularly have a clear out of my desk, but the fact that it has to multi-task between day job (which comes with an absurd amount of paper for a paperless business), coach, photographer & writer means it’s never quite as clear and functional as I’d like it to be. But I do always have a vase of flowers in the corner which makes me smile and helps it to feel more friendly and less office-like.

Last week was very much focused on the coaching & related stuff. The support/accountability group has been good, although as useful was the time I spent alone in the car yesterday. Usually I have a passenger or listen to music/the radio, but silence felt right yesterday and it allowed my mind to free flow. Got some great insights into my motivation which will help with my focus. Feel pretty pumped actually – a word I *never* use about myself btw!

Today I’m attending the first of 3 writing workshops. I’ve joined in the middle of a series, but they’re sold as standalone workshops also, so I decided to jump right in rather than wait till they re-start, as I can always pick up the first 3 if I feel they’d be useful. I’ve been intending to re-visit my dusty forgetten WIPs after a bunch of encouragement late last year. The virus killed that burst of enthusiasm, so I’m giving this a go. To be honest, it’s also part of my goal to do more stuff for myself this year.

@NotKlingonRed, you are setting a stellar lead to follow. Fantastic!

    • GO DEBS!! Look at you go. That stupid virus. And I totally get it, mine wasn’t nearly as persistent as yours and it did the same for me.

I love that you took advantage of car time. It can be such a good place to be in your thoughts if you don’t have the distractions.

And I can’t wait to hear how the writing workshops are going!! I hope they’re useful, and I’m glad you’re getting back to it.

Yes, I’m really liking the block on distractions with the desk, and once I have all the creature comforts, it will be a bit like having another room without having to have another room!

Your office is definitely multi-functional…that’s a lot of hats for a desk!

But more than anything, I’m so glad to hear you sounding much more like yourself. That’s fantastic to see.

I’m just back from the first workshop (Voice & Setting were there themes) which was great, despite the room being the coldest ever! A real mix of experience & backgrounds and I can feel my writing mojo bursting out 🙂

Thank you! I do feel that the real Debs is back and starting to motor again. Even before the virus, I’d long struggled with getting the balance right. If I achieve anything this year, it’ll be finding more time for me & what I love to do. 😀
