#MondayThoughts: The Spoutible whirlpool.

Standard

Oh it’s Monday, but a weird Monday that’s really Wednesday for a lot of people given Thanksgiving is mere days away. Yes. Mere days away.

I don’t know how we got here either.

My dad and I were going to go out to eat, but he’s still not fully recovered from his COVID so instead, I’m going to cook. What I’m going to cook is still to be seen, but we are more likely to do ground turkey than a turkey breast. Who needs tradition.

It’s a sunny gray day, and I also don’t know how we got here with that, but there it is. Maybe it will rain, maybe it won’t, but on this day where you can almost smell the fall spices in the air, I found it hard to tear myself away from the Spoutible whirlpool to come over here and chat with you this morning.

Well morningish.

Or not really, at this point. Alas. But the lovely @apfel_sarah suggested this issue as a subject for today, and here we are!

Anyway, I think the Spoutible whirlpool is a little like doomscrolling but way, way more pleasant. Now granted, a whirlpool in the ocean is probably not a very relaxing experience so maybe I’m picturing a hot tub with Spouty lounging next to us, just hanging out, drinking its salt ice water (extra cold!) and cheersing with our cucumber water.

Whether it’s an ocean whirlpool or a hot tub with a whale in it–and if you’re having a hard time picturing it, so did the AI art generator–it’s not always easy to tear yourself away from Spoutible, but not in the same way as twitter. It’s not anger-driven, it’s not that twinge of what is the next Terrible Thing that will be the worst Terrible Thing until the next Terrible Thing.

It’s more like not wanting to miss the origin of the next inside joke. Like wanting to be sure you see the spouts of people who have become the voices of the every day.

It feels a little like walking away in the middle of a conversation. A real one, not one screamed with troll armies poised to attack.

It takes some getting used to, for sure, but once you find the rhythm, it’s clear it’s the future of online interaction.

And who wants to miss out on the future?!

Anyway, that’s it for me today, have a lovely Monday/Wednesday.
