“Start something new.”
I knew I was going to need to write a short story for a guest blog over at Fiction Can Be Fun, but I thought I’d work from a beginning I’d written a while ago. And yet I never got around to re-reading that beginning.
Start something new.
Then, in a fit of procrastination, I was emptying the dishwasher when inspiration hit. Silly inspiration. Ridiculous inspiration. I was off.
And I’m having a ball writing it.
Sometimes that’s all it takes to get going when the writing gets tough. Sometimes all you need is something fresh, something with no expectations, something that can be whatever it will be.
Start something new.
It was my sign from the universe; and now it’s yours.

Inspiration comes from the most unlikely places, doesn’t it. Just have to have an open mind!

Exactly! That’s why I think you’re never really “stuck,” you just haven’t seen the right spark yet. 😉

I’m pretty good at starting something new, but don’t always maintain or finish the something new. Did TJ Maxx have a sign that spoke to that problem? I’m telling you, there’s a market for that sort of sign!

Hmm. I’m thinking of taking a walk up there later, so I’ll keep you posted. My gut says “maybe.”
It’s true, things are always harder when the shiny wears off.

It’s been a ton of fun doing it, I haven’t done a short format in a while and I’ve forgotten how enjoyable it can be 🙂

That definitely works for me with blog posts. If I get stumped, I put it aside for a while and “start something new”. WeekendsInMaine

It’s funny how it works. It might be a bit of the honeymoon phase, but with a short story, you’re done before it can wear off 😉

Inspiration just needs a spark. Those titles alone are artful! And when in doubt, starting something new isn’t a bad way to get rolling.
