#MondayThoughts: And then…sometimes it does.

Standard

Well my migraine yesterday wasn’t in vain. We’re due some snow today.

Woo-hoo.

It’s weird because when I get them like that, I go over and over what I’ve eaten and possible triggers, especially when the weather, outwardly, gives no clues.

And then…sometimes it does.

Just later.

Getting headaches depending on the weather is like having an arbitrary, fickle companion who blows up at you out of thin air.

Get it?

Thin air. Or maybe in this case, thick air.

Anyway, that’s it for me this Monday. Have a great day.

#FridayThoughts: The planet is like that.

Standard

It’s a gray day, warmer than it’s been, above freezing anyway. It looks like it’s going to rain.

If it does, the remainder of the snow will melt, with only the mushy ground as a reminder it was ever there.

Spring can’t be so very far away now.

I’ve watched the seasons change like hand-cranked background for a puppet theater, around and around. With or without us, they come and go.

The planet is like that.

Sometimes I think about all the species that spent time here, dealt with the rain and the snow, and just the rain before snow was invented.

All the creatures that filled the oceans and walked the land.

Evolution is too large a thought for the human mind.

Yet here we are, not the biggest or fastest or strongest. And I’m willing to argue not the smartest, especially with our recent evidence to support it.

Yet here we are. Watching the seasons go by.

Have a great Friday and a wonderful weekend.

#WednesdayWisdom: What have you got?

Standard

Wednesday is the day I dig deep into my shallow bowl of wisdom and share a little tidbit with you. But that bowl is looking pretty sparse right now.

So. What if, for today, we flip it?

Today, you tell me.

What little bits of wisdom do you want everyone to know? Big, small, passed down or realized in the shower (all the best realizations seem to happen in the shower).

Whatever it is, what is it?

Mine, for today, is when you are uninspired, other people can prove incredibly inspiring.

See what I did there?

And that’s it for today! Please feel free to share your wisdom with the rest of us, and have a fantastic Wednesday.

#TuesdayThoughts: Muddled.

Standard

Well it’s Tuesday, so here’s a Mom Update. And now on with the post.

It’s a sunny, cold day, which is not unusual for February, and I’ve had a low-grade migraine for the last two days. I’ve had worse.

But still, I’m dragging and tired. Everything seems like a lot of effort.

Everything.

And the words don’t come easily. In the way of migraines.

Not sure what triggered it this time around; I’ve been pretty careful with food and the weather doesn’t look problematic.

But the weather could change. It often does.

Somehow, though, it didn’t affect my Wordle play. So go me.

And that’s it today. Have a great Tuesday.

#MondayThoughts: A much less than fabulous time.

Standard

It’s another gray day, and occasional huge, fat snowflakes swirl in the wind. They won’t amount to anything; it’s the small, mean flakes you have to look out for.

It’s quiet, though, this morning, and I had another night of strange dreams of some faraway place, some distant time. It all went fuzzy as left it, that other realm, and now I can’t remember much of it at all.

I’m glad I’ve made yoga my priority in fitness right now. It’s impossible to do everything all the time, but I know, no matter what else I do in the morning, or even if I don’t anything else in the morning, I will do yoga.

Today Adriene had a new video, apparently during the rest of the year she releases one per month to her Youtube channel. What a generous gift that channel is, fully-formed yoga programs for anyone who wants them, right there.

It’s definitely a fabulous tool for dealing with a much less than fabulous time.

And with that, I am off. Have a great Monday and a wonderful start to your week.

#FridayThoughts: Anti-coffee demons

Standard

It’s glaringly sunny today, the sun bouncing enthusiastically off all of the snow from the last few days. It seems to have stopped, for the time being.

We’ll see.

My morning has not flowed smoothly and by that I mean my coffee has not flowed smoothly, it took three attempts to get a cup.

Though I’d love to blame the coffeemaker (lie! I adore the coffeemaker, it’s one of my best friends) or nanorobots or little invisible anti-coffee demons, the fault lies within me.

First attempt, the almond milk didn’t froth. I wasn’t sure if it was the frother or the milk. Tasted it.

It was the milk.

Second attempt, I forgot to put coffee in the coffee filter.

Squarely on me.

Third attempt: coffee, yes; new almond milk. yes; success.

Whew.

Seems more like Monday problems than Friday problems but at least I’m caffeinated.

Anyway, that’s it for me today, have a great Friday and a lovely weekend.

It’s THURSDAY! You know what that means.

#ThursdayTen time!

Well maybe you didn’t know that but you know now. I actually considered skipping this week.

But I didn’t. How about that.

Anyway, using the above image as a prompt, write a ten word story. EXACTLY ten words.

Ready? Here’s mine:

#WednesdayWisdom: Some days even quarter-hearted will do.

Standard

Well we got the snow. Lots and lots and lots of snow.

So much for that stripe of blue on the weather map.

But as I sit here inside, away from a winter wonderland in the making, the roads still smushy and slidey, I am not what one would call “motivated.”

It made me think about how we often console ourselves by saying we “tried our best.” And today it hit me: it doesn’t even have to be your best.

To try is good enough, if that’s all you have.

Any effort is an effort.

Some days, a quarter-hearted–not even half-hearted, but quarter-hearted–effort will do.

Forward is forward, no matter how miniscule the momentum.

And that’s it for me on this blizzardy Wednesday. Have a great day, and if you’re having bad weather, please be safe.

#TuesdayThoughts: Yoga and other things

Standard

Given it’s Tuesday, here is the latest Mom Update. And now for the blogging.

It’s gray today, but it doesn’t look like we’re in for that huge winter storm spanning the country. Though I wouldn’t count it out.

You never know.

It turns out I didn’t have to decide anything about yoga after all. Adriene provides monthly programs on her channel, so I’m simply continuing onward.

If you subscribe, the videos vary a little bit, but for right now, I’m OK doing it this way. I suspect I’ll subscribe eventually, she brings a lot of variety to the practice. And I love having a schedule that doesn’t require you to do the same thing every day.

I really like the new habit, and I’m happy that I gave myself the exercise freedom to cultivate it.

And that’s really all I have for you today. Have a great Tuesday.
